Outlook on Tospoviruses Affecting Important Crop Plants in Iran

Abstract

Tospoviruses are among the most damaging plant viruses worldwide. Over recent decades, the increasing global trade of plants and plant products, climate changes and types of agricultural practices in different regions have resulted in the spread of both the tospoviruses and their vector’s thrips species. This brief review further emphasized the current status on the distribution and presence of important Orthotospoviruses affecting major crop plants in different growing regions in Iran. This data may bring more attentions to this important genus of viruses and will help in devising efficient control strategies to curb the tospovirus diseases and the thrips vectors.
