Abstract

Public libraries serve as vital community centres for educational support, cultural enrichment, and equitable access to information. This study evaluates user satisfaction with public libraries in the Nadia district of West Bengal. Using survey research across selected public libraries, the study assesses users’ demographic patterns, usage behaviour, satisfaction levels, and perceptions toward the resources and services of public libraries in Nadia district. The study highlights the indispensable role of public libraries in fostering learning and socio-economic progress in Nadia district while emphasizing the need for infrastructural improvement, enhanced resource provision, and inclusive service strategies to further elevate user satisfaction and community impact.

  • Himan Chowdhury, Ph.D. Scholar, Library & Information Science, Mansarovar Global University, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh, India.

    Himan Chowdhury completed his Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, and is currently pursuing Ph.D. degree in the Department of Library and Information Science at Mansarovar Global University, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. He is working as a Librarian at Kandi Raj College, Kandi, Murshidabad, West Bengal. His doctoral research encompasses an investigation on user studies of public libraries in Murshidabad and Nadia districts of West Bengal. This paper presents several key findings from his ongoing research.

    Dr. Shahina Sultana Khan holds a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science and is currently a Professor in the Department of Library and Information Science at Mansarovar Global University, Sehore, Madhya Pradesh. Her research interests include the preservation and conservation of old library materials, information-seeking behaviour, and public libraries. She has published numerous research articles in reputed journals and is guiding several research scholars in their Ph.D. programs.
